Performance: New Invisible Cities, 7:30pm
Inspired by Italo Calvino's dream-like masterpiece Invisible Cities, Penn students in Thomas Devaney's creative writing class enacted their own new invisible cities through puppet theater. This performative experiment was created in collaboration with Beth Nixon's Ramshackle Enterprises and the ICA.
The Penn a cappella Dischord provided echoing vocals and parallel songs for the performance.

Workshop: Make Your Own Puppet, 8:30pm
Master puppeteer Beth Nixon was on hand to help craft the puppet of your dreams. All materials provided.

Feb 6

For the February 6th Penn First Wednesday students were entertained with a live puppet show, full of juvenile humor for adults. After ten years Doug and Mike's Adult Entertianment returned to Philadelphia. In the early 1990's, Doug Skinner and Michael Smith came to the conclusion that they were not interested in entertaining children, but rather doing juvenile humor for adults. This revelation came as the culture wars were heating up in the U.S. and they entered the fray with their puppet show. In conjunction with the current exhibition "The Puppet Show."

Dec 5

For the December 5th Penn First Wednesday, students from the year-long 'Writing through Culture and Art' class, taught by Kenny Goldsmith, interpreted the stillness of Eileen Neff's work through the writing of John Cage. Using headphones, GoogleTalk, a metronome, and a copy of Cage's "Lecture on Nothing", students performed throughout the galleries in tempo, out loud, and online.

English 165 students: Simone Blaser, Chloe Hurley, Emily Kaplan, Ali Lapinski, Steve McLaughlin, Katie Price, Nicholas Salvatore, Manya Scheps, Kaegan Sparks, Emily Spiegel, Catherine Turcich-Kealy, Michael Tom Vassallo, Laura Wasserson, and Vladimir Zykov

At 8pm Marina Rosenfeld also introduced the film Her Noise: The Making Of, (60 minutes, Electra) which documents the development of the “Her Noise” project between 2001 and 2005. The project was started in late 2001 by Lina Dzuverovic and Anne Hilde Neset, collaborators on a monthly series at London’s Lux Centre that investigated the lack of female presence on the independent music scene at the time.
