ICA Presents 4th Annual Teen Video Festival,
Saturday, May 7, 1-3pm

April 18, 2005

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) at the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce the fourth annual Teen Video Festival on Saturday, May 7, 2005. This event is free and open to the public. Held in ICA's Tuttleman Auditorium, Teen Video Festival-like the popular Open Video Call-offers participants the opportunity to meet others who share their interest in video production. The Festival is open to all teens ages 13-19 interested in publicly screening their work. The Festival also features a critique and open dialogue about the art of filmmaking with a distinguished panel including artists, critics, film historians and curators.

Launched during the 2001/2002 season to engage younger audiences and recognize the accomplish- ments of the region’s next generation of video artists, this year’s selected videos will be screened in a public event on Saturday, May 7 from 1-3pm. A guest panel comprised of Philadelphia area video and educational professionals will choose the videos selected. This year's distinguished panel includes Philadelphia Citypaper Film Critic Sam Adams, artist Gabe Martinez, and ICA’s Associate Curator Jenelle Porter.

In conjunction with ICA’s popular Open Video Call, this event helps promote the work of young artists and gives them valuable exposure to the arts community. Videos are solicited from students aged 13-19 from the region’s top 400 regional high schools, colleges and universities, art galleries, museums, professional film and video associations, media organizations, and community centers bringing entries from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and beyond. For the very first time, like Open Video Call, selected artists will have their videos showcased on the mezzanine of ICA(’)s galleries. The winners will also take part in a special networking luncheon and tour of ICA’s spring exhibitions which include works using video and digital technology.

Information is available at ICA’s website at www.icaphila.org/events.

The annual Teen Video Festival is dedicated in memory of its founder, former ICA staff member Betsy Meyer.

ICA is grateful to The Meyer Family for primary funding and to Julia W. Haddad for her support in memory of Elizabeth (Betsy) Meyer. Additional funding for educational programming at ICA is provided by the Lindback Foundation, The Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, The Dietrich Foundation Inc., the Overseers Board for the Institute of Contemporary Art, ICA members and the University of Pennsylvania. (Information complete as of 5/5/05.)
